Gambit: The Unproduced Superhero Film That Almost Was

Channing Tatum's Heartbreak Over Lost Role

A Decade-Long Dream Cut Short

WEB Gambit, an unproduced American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, was intended to be an installment of the X-Men franchise. The film was put on hold and ultimately never materialized due to Disney's acquisition of Fox.

Channing Tatum was cast as Gambit for the solo movie a decade ago, but the project was never realized. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Tatum revealed his heartbreak over the collapse of the project.

"Once Gambit went away, I was so traumatized," Tatum said. "I was so deeply in love with that character."

Tatum's disappointment was compounded by the fact that he had been working on the project for years. He had even learned Cajun French for the role and had developed a strong rapport with the director, Gore Verbinski.

The film's cancellation was a major setback for Tatum's career. He had been hoping that Gambit would be his breakout role, and he was devastated when it was taken away from him.
