India and Myanmar sign 12 agreements

Deals inked in areas of trade, security and connectivity

India and Myanmar signed 12 agreements on Thursday in areas of trade, security and connectivity, as the two countries looked to boost their strategic partnership.

The agreements were signed after a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Myanmar's State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi in New Delhi.

The two sides also agreed to enhance cooperation in the field of defence and security, and to work together to combat terrorism and extremism.

Following the signing ceremony, Modi and Suu Kyi addressed a joint press conference.

Modi said that the agreements signed today will help to further strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Myanmar.

Suu Kyi said that she was confident that the two countries would be able to achieve even greater progress in their relationship in the years to come.
